Blum Laser Tool Setter Alternative — FrontSense LTT1 Series

Looking for an alternative to a Blum laser tool setter without locking every new cell into a single OEM ecosystem? FrontSense designs and manufactures non-contact laser tool setters for CNC machining centres, built for tool length measurement, broken-tool and missing-tool checks, and repeatable in-process verification.

FrontSense LTT1 laser tool setter, an alternative for Blum-class laser tool-setting applications

Cost control on multi-machine rollouts and spare units

Non-contact length and breakage checks in one laser tool-setting workflow

Protected optics path with an air curtain; air supply and sealing requirements are reviewed at installation

Application review before you buy: I/O, mounting and the smallest tool you need to measure

One supplier for probes and tool setters: many distributors source CNC touch probes and laser setters together

Recommended FrontSense models

Our LTT1 series is a practical alternative for shops running Blum-class laser tool-setting applications. FrontSense is an independent manufacturer and is not affiliated with Blum. We do not claim identical optics, firmware, or guaranteed mechanical drop-in on every bracket; fit is reviewed case by case.

LTT1 is the workhorse for milling centres that need fast non-contact length checks and broken-tool monitoring in general machining and mold shops: non-contact tool length and radius measurement, broken-tool and edge-chipping detection, air-curtain protected optics, and series variants for different spindle envelopes. Datasheet figures (repeatability, minimum tool diameter, sealing rating) are confirmed for your configuration at quote.

Application need Typical Blum-class expectation FrontSense LTT1 approach
Tool length measurement Non-contact laser Non-contact laser tool setter
Tool radius / diameter Laser measurement at speed Length and radius measurement
Broken / missing tool In-cycle beam-interrupt checks Broken-tool detection with alarm / stop logic
Small tools Depends on beam and optics Minimum tool size confirmed for your coolant and mist conditions at quote
Repeatability OEM catalog figure Figure for your configuration confirmed at quote
Coolant / mist Air purge and sealing Air curtain; air module and sealing confirmed at quote
CNC I/O Discrete signals / interface module Documented I/O; share your CNC/PLC make at quote
Mounting Machine-specific brackets Bracket reviewed during application check
Variants Several envelope / reach options LTT1 series variants selected by spindle envelope at quote

Interchangeability depends on machine model, beam geometry, air supply, interface and macros. Send photos of your current laser unit, bracket and wiring for a compatibility review.

Retrofit checklist (send with your inquiry)

  1. Machine make / model and control (FANUC / Siemens / Mitsubishi / Brother / other)
  2. Current tool setter brand and model (nameplate photo)
  3. Mounting location photos (spindle side / table / ATC area)
  4. Air supply available (dry, filtered air?)
  5. Signals required: length only, or length + breakage
  6. Smallest tool diameter you must measure
  7. Coolant / mist severity at the laser window
  8. Destination country, for shipping and voltage notes

Frequently Asked Questions

Is FrontSense LTT1 a drop-in replacement for every Blum laser?

No. LTT1 is an alternative for Blum-class applications (non-contact length and breakage checks). Brackets, beam height, air ports and I/O must be reviewed for your machine. We do not claim identical drop-in fit.

What is the smallest tool LTT1 can detect?

It depends on beam condition, air curtain and coolant mist. Tell us your smallest and worst-case tools and we will confirm what LTT1 can reliably detect in your conditions at quote.

Do I need an air supply or air module?

LTT1 uses an air curtain to protect the optics. For misty or coolant-heavy cells, we review your air quality and whether an air module is needed at quote.

Which CNC controls are supported?

FrontSense tool setters are commonly used with FANUC, Siemens and Mitsubishi controls, among others. Share your control and existing ladder or macros so we can confirm signal mapping. Our FANUC custom M-code guide covers typical PMC integration steps.

Can I buy touch probes and laser tool setters together?

Yes. FrontSense also supplies CNC touch probes, including OMP40-2, OMP400, OMP60, RMP40-2 and BMP40-2. See Renishaw probe alternatives.
